Born in 1957 / From Tokyo

After dropping out of the Department of Nuclear Engineering (Tokai University), he entered the Shobi Conservatory of Music, but then dropped out again. Although he attempted to debut from the fusion band 'MUSE', he changed direction and turned to home recording and began making music for commercials. Eventually he went on to become a music composer.

After meeting Mamoru Oshii in the movie 'Red Glasses', he was appointed to manage composing for the movie versions of 'Mobile Police Patlabor' and 'Ghost in the Shell'. Since then, he has produced many BGMs for videos and anime.

In 2008, he won the Best Film Score Award at the Sitges Catalonia International Film Festival for his work 'The Sky Crawlers.' In 2015, he was in charge of the music for the NHK Taiga drama 'Hanamoyu.'
