It's been a few months since Persona 3 (Reload) came out.
There are probably people who've already cleared it, aren't there?
This installment includes, as DLC, Episode Aigis, which previously existed only in the PS2 version "Persona 3 FES."
I'd love to play it soon too, but Shin Megami Tensei V also came out, and Metaphor is coming out a few months from now, so this time I'm reluctantly holding off (I'll get to it eventually).
That said, since I've fully cleared both the original Persona 3 and P3P, the urge to play is there.
So this time, rather than looking back on Persona 3 itself... well, not exactly, but I thought I'd look back on the music of Persona 3.
Persona 3 shed the ominousness of the first two games and is the cool progenitor that leads into the stylish, fashionable, cool modern Persona series.
Of course, that's not to say the earlier ones weren't interesting. Persona 2 was a two-part work split into Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment, and it had a thematic depth and message that struck at the core of being human, "What does it mean to grow up?" It was decidedly interesting.
I cleared Persona 2: Innocent Sin, but in Eternal Punishment I got trapped inside an air-raid shelter, couldn't get out, and gave up on playing. From the characters' perspective, getting left behind in an air-raid shelter is a terrible thing. But when I later asked an Atlus employee about it, it turned out there was a fatal bug there, and I wasn't the only one who couldn't escape.
Persona 3 completely overhauled the systems up to that point. There's a dungeon part where you take on dungeon exploration, and a daily-life part where you deepen bonds with your companions.
Especially fun is the bond part, where you deepen ties with your companions. When you grow close to specific people, something called a "Community" (Social Link) occurs, earning you bonus points when you summon a Persona, and letting you summon more powerful demons. You can even make a girlfriend or boyfriend (boyfriends are only in P3P, where you can choose the female protagonist). It's a gem that made people ask, "Is this a dating sim?"
Yes, in this game, you can unleash techniques by summoning demons, angels, yokai, dragons, and the like as your Persona (alternate personality). What you use to do that is shooting yourself in the temple with a gun. It's an act that takes quite a bit of courage.
The means of collecting demons also changed from the previous demon-negotiation format to a card format you obtain by shuffling after battle.
The composer is Shoji Meguro. He's handled the sound not only for Persona 3 but for Persona 4 and Persona 5 as well, and recently went freelance.
So, let's listen to the score. First, the battle music "Mass Destruction." It's a rap-tinged sound that's way too stylish for a battle, but this is the normal battle music of Persona 3.
And then, "Jika Net Tanaka." It's music you feel like you've heard somewhere, and no wonder. The president of this "Jika Net Tanaka" is the holder of a demon Community, and in the game you can even buy "Jika Net Tanaka" products at reasonable prices. (It's a wonder they didn't get sued.)
The last one I'll introduce is "Kimi no Kioku" (Memories of You). It's the ED theme, and when it plays while you're in the middle of the game, it makes you cry so hard your tear ducts collapse.
This one I really want you to hear while playing the game, but as a special exception I'll paste a URL where you can listen to just the song.
