As of this writing (August 2024), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been animated through Part 6.
On top of that, 'Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan,' featuring Rohan Kishibe from Part 4 as the protagonist, has been made into a live-action drama and then a film.
What I'm featuring this time is my personal favorite among them all: 'JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind.'
Giorno Giovanna, who lives in Italy, was the son who inherited the blood of DIO, the archenemy of the Joestar family. Persecuted by those around him, Giorno spent a miserable childhood, but after an encounter with a gangster whose name he never even learned, he came to harbor the dream of becoming a 'gangstar.'
The year is 2001. Now grown to age 15, Giorno gets into trouble with Passione, the gang organization that rules Italy's underworld, and is attacked by the organization's Bruno Bucciarati. The two are both Stand users. After winning, Giorno confesses to Bucciarati his own ambition—'to defeat Passione's boss and take over the organization'—and Bucciarati, resonating with that resolve, brings Giorno onto his team. Passione is a gang that possesses the 'Stand Arrow' and counts numerous Stand users among its ranks.
Though Giorno has joined Passione, climbing the ranks within the organization is essential to getting close to the 'Boss,' an entity whose identity is unknown. Giorno builds bonds of trust with his teammates, and Bucciarati is promoted to a leadership position—but immediately afterward, he's assigned the mission of guarding Trish, the Boss's secret love child. Trish is being targeted by an assassination team that has betrayed the organization, and the Boss orders Bucciarati to 'protect my daughter' and the organization to 'hunt down the traitors.' Giorno and the others head for Venice, where the Boss awaits, all while protecting Trish. (Partially excerpted from Wikipedia.)
The score for this anime adaptation is by Yugo Kanno. He's been a regular on JoJo since Part 3, and as you'd expect, he captures the 'bizarre' quality of JoJo perfectly—it's wonderful.
He's primarily a TV-drama guy, and only got into anime fairly recently. His other notable works include 'Galileo' starring Masaharu Fukuyama and 'After the Dinner the Detective Comes,' and in anime there's 'PSYCHO-PASS.'
So let's dive right into the score.
First up is 'il vento d'oro,' a masterpiece you could practically call execution BGM.
It's no exaggeration to say it's the most famous track on this soundtrack—it plays when the tide turns and our heroes switch to the offensive. It's also used for eyecatches and the like.
The second track is 'riproduzione.' It's a slightly eerie arrangement of the 'il vento d'oro' melody, played from what is presumably a boombox or similar.
Now, let's part ways while watching the cool teaser PV for Part 5, Golden Wind.
